Random Thoughts: Takers
Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:14AM So last night, I go to a screening of Takers. Four of the finest men on the planet wielding guns and firing them off? The idea was practically porn for me.
You've heard of this, right? If not, it's a heist flick with TI (executive producer), Idris Elba, Michael Ealy, and Chris Brown. Decent movie. Lots of adrenaline. Decent heist. It's not Heat* or anything, but by flick's end my testosterone was on overdrive and I wanted to kick something or fight someone. Hmm. Maybe video games and rap music are bad for kids after all. But then, I wanted to be destructive, but I wasn't. So maybe entertainment is just fine and people should do better raising their kids.
It's worth the price of admission for the slow mo scenes of fine Black men dressed like the Rat Pack and the flash of Idris Elba getting out of bed in his short boxer-briefs. He's never really done barely-clothed before. It's a personal preference, not for lack of ability or discipline. Had they done that scene in slow motion, we mighta had a Pee Wee Herman problem up in Sony Theatre. Next.
Anyway, while watching the flick, I discovered several things:
*I still crush for Chris Brown
I won't tell you what happens to his character. I will tell you his acting...? eh. He sounds the same way he did on Larry King Live. BUT, that is one lovely looking young man. That little face? Those bright eyes? Brown repeatedly does dumb ish in real life (and in the movie), but there's something about him that still makes me protective. I don't snarl when I see him, I shake my head. I thought my crush was gone (I took down the shrine at my desk last Feb for obvious reasons).... then there was a scene in the movie where... Brown's in a bad spot. I threw my hands over my eyes and shouted, "Oh, no, Breezy!" LOUD. I don't know where it came from. My co-worker was next to me and died laughing.
*Idris Elba is a god among mortal men
Of course, I already knew this, but I felt like stating it again because it's a scientific fact. If you're a woman and you don't stan for Idris you're either blind or lesbian. That's it. You can not have any vision and be hetero and not be moved by the sight of him. He has his accent in Takers. Good grief. And half the movie is in slow motion. Everyone looks sexy in slow mo.
*Michael Ealy is slept on
That is a man. A may-ane! He's got this... thing. It ain't swagger. It's like testosterone seeps out of skin in little puffs every time he takes a hard step. It's not the eyes. I mean it is, but it's not just the eyes. It's his jaw line, actually. And the way he expresses himself with his eyes. I was moved.
*Michael Ealy and Chris Brown could bring light skin men back in style.
You'll see why if you watch the movie. But they had me re-thinking my obsession with these dark and lovelies.
*The TI conundrum
So I'm sitting there watching a heist flick with TI. All guns and glory. And although I know it's entertainment, I wonder if anyone else found the irony in a man who was locked up for buying a bevy of guns in a K-Mart parking lot doing a movie with so many guns. Like was this was TI was planning in the parking lot? And for a man re-building his image, is this really helping?
*I miss Kanye West
That had nothing to do with Takers. It's how I feel is all. "Where are you, Yeezy?"

Umm... is this movie ever going to come out? I saw a preview for it in the theater last fall and as each actor popped up on the screen, I got louder and more excited. I feel the same way about Chris Brown. Most people don't get it. Idris IS a God, and his natural accent makes him that much more sexy. I don't care about T.I.'s past, he can still get it. And you're so right about Ealy. Ugh. I just want to see the movie. Zoe's my girl too! I'm stealing her tat.
We all miss Yeezy and his antics (his music too, I guess). Ha!

And I agree... there's something about Michael Ealy... his eyes have a lot to do with it (their color, his gaze, etc.) but it's just... him. The way he speaks, stands, stares.... mmmm.
Idris Elba... that accent... his stance... Lord, help me.

I have been seeing the previews for Takers since November and I would always get mad because there would be no release date just "Coming Soon"
I can't wait for August; I'm normally not the "see-a-flick-on-opening-night- kinda chick but I have the feeling I will be there EARLY. I doubt there is anything that can keep me from seeing all this eye candy.
Yes! Yes! Yes! to all of these men and a special shout-out to Paul Walker and Jay Hernandez who are quite sexy themselves!

I have been waiting for this movie forever. Like TC I saw the full trailer some time ago and got increasingly more excited as I realized all the eye candy that was in it. AND they're impeccably groomed but still masculine? AND they have guns? AND Idris is speaking in his native accent? I am IN.
Also, despite what he has done, I still think Chris Brown is attractive. Stupid. But attractive.
P.S.- I love random Belle posts. LOL
Nope sorry. Idris Elba does nothing for me. He's attractive, but no. And light brown brothers never went out of style in my book. Give me caramel over chocolate ANY day!

Had the pleasure to see Michael Ealy in person @ Negril (restaraunt in NYC)... and the screen doesn't do him any justice!!! He can get it, flip it anyway he wants to. Lol.
I also agree with Heat being the best heist flick ever. That said, onto Takers. I feel it will be good, definitely worth checking out. From an acting standpoint, I always felt from looking at TI's performance in ATL he could do bigger & better things. This shows he's going in that direction. There's nowhere for Chris Brown's acting career to go but up after This Christmas. Michael Ealy also is a very good actor who can play a variety of roles & its a crime we don't see him in more stuff. As for Idris Elba, we all watch The Wire. Nuff said.

this made me laugh so hard. but um... .yah. Chris did here about how he did in this christmas. except the marbles in the mouth thing is even worse here. and he's on a motorcycle again. he loves it.
looked like he did his own stunts though. you'll see why i'm amazed when you see the movie.
I stopped reading at your comments about Michael Ealy to say that IT IS his jaw line that projects all aspects of sexy man-dom!!! I loved his character in Barbershop for that reason. He was always angry and his jawline was so defined in every scene...whew....
I finished reading and I agree with you about Kan-yeezy. I miss him, too. I've been listing to Late Registration and Graduation for a month now, no joke. I hadn't listened to them in their entirety so long, but could still sing(rap, whatever) almost every song (and interlude) verbatim. I love Kanye's music...808's and Heartbreak included!
FYI, Idris has another movie out called Legacy it premiered at the Tribeca Film Fest

Ok, Belle, you had me cracking up at "Oh, no, Breezy!" LOL. I guess I'm the only one here who's just not attracted to Mr. Elba. Maybe this movie will change my mind (doubt it). I just don't see Breezy the same way anymore. Now I do agree with you on Michael Ealy. I been lovin' him since Their Eyes Were Watching God. Brrrrr he's a cold piece of work. And you did sleep on Paul Walker. I usually don't care for white boyz, but he is fyne! As for TI...no comment...none necessary since summed it all up pretty accurately.
I cant agree more! I feel the same way about Chris Brown. That is my grown women crush! I wish he would get his life together so he can stop making horrible mistakes. He is young enough to change. Idris Elba good lord that man is beautiful words cant express. Michael Ealy this man is also fine he is so underated. With all this sexy going on lets not for get about Ti he is sexy as hell too. Short but sexy none the less. Oh and Paul Walker that white boy is FINE. Sistas dont sleep on the white men. Last but not least I STILL LOVE KANYEEZY! Kanye is almost always right! Since I utterly agree with what pretty much everyone's said so far (re: Idris, Michael and T.I.) , I won't repeat it, what about those white boys???? LOL I was IN LOOOOOVE with Paul Walker back in the day (during my phase of mainly liking Caucasian guys). And Hayden Christensen??? He can get it too LOL I remember him from his first movie (forgot the name) and thought he'd be a huge movie star by now esp. after being in Star Wars, but I don't know what happened :-/
